National Debate On Gun Control Heats Up

By Cornelius Nunev

The controversy over the right to own guns is the most popular topic today, coast to coast. Gun buyers are heating up sales, fearing that they may not be able to purchase them in the future. Obama is considering using his executive order privilege to push 19 different firearm control actions through, should they not pass Congress. The Countrywide Rifle Association is attempting to block the administration. It is an organization that some believe is tied to the country's gun market, which generates $12 billion annually.

Firearm control actions being considered

With 10,037,110 background checks done in order to sell guns in 2011, there are still millions of people who bought guns without background checks. When there are private sales and gun shows, background checks are unnecessary. According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, background checks never occur in about 40 percent of gun sales.

The 19 measures President Obama is considering could contain imposing stiffer penalties for those who lie on background checks or who traffic in guns, limiting the import of guns from overseas, and greater sharing and scrutiny of the mental health records of would-be gun buyers.

The President has already made it clear that he supports a ban on assault-style weapons and high-capacity clips, over which he will face an uphill battle with Congressional Republicans.

Support of guns

If President Obama takes an executive order on any of the measures, Rep. Steve Stockman from Texas promised to impeach him. There are many people who promise civil war if the administration takes the weapons. On top of that, many other firearm supporters are really against a push from the administration.

Stockman promises this because he said the move could be unconstitutional.

Official position of NRA

Obviously, the Countrywide Rifle Association is totally against further regulation in the sector. It believes that putting armed guards in front of all schools and looking more closely at video game violence is much more productive than attempting to regulate more. It is one of the biggest and most powerful lobbies in Washington D.C., and it has also responded to the gun tragedies in the nation.

The NRA states that its reason is to protect the second amendment rights of American citizens, and that it has no ties to the gun market. However, a recent comprehensive Huffington Post piece by Peter Dreier questions that with some pretty compelling data. The article indicated that the NRA's interest has always favored the gun sector over its rank-and-file contributing members.

Dreier said: "The NRA is ... primarily a corporate lobby group working on behalf of the gun and ammo manufacturers, similar to the trade associations that represent car manufacturers ... and other industries. All of them claim to do what's best for the consumers of their products ... but everyone knows that they primarily serve the interests of the corporations who fund and govern them."

The Story Of Pot: From 3000BC Till Present

By Smokey Joe

Cannabis, or weed, is a native crop of central and south Asian regions. The first documented use of Marijuana dates to 3000 BC. Many Chinese and Asian relics found in grave sites and funeral spots contained marijuana leaves and resin. Apart from Chinese and eastern Asian regions, the ancient text "Vedas" touches on a plant that was worshiped and considered a medical relief. "Soma" is associated to weed by many followers of text. Marijuana is often found in the Himalayan mountain range, and is consumed and exported as a cash crop. Areas that are linked with indigenous cannabis production include Nepal, India, Kashmir, and Pakistan.

Folk have used weed for meditational purposes since ancient times. Many Nepali friars still meditate utilizing the plant, which helps them purify their mind and use it for concentration. It's been used as a medical herb throughout its history. Its established usage commenced with the exporting of marijuana seeds and plants for medical purposes to northern African regions, where it then made its way to Europe. This trade goes back as early as 500 A.D. In the western world, it was used as a dependable source of fiber. Marijuana plants were cultivated in spades during the tricky times of World War Ii as the supply of hemp to the western world from Asiatic sources was halted due to tensions created by the war.

In the 19th century, many literary classics mention weed and try to describe its psychological effects, the trance it causes, and how it is consumed, Les Paradis Artificiels by Charles Baudelaire and The Hasheesh Eater by Fitz Hugh Ludlow are well-liked examples of such literature.

In the U. S. A, marijuana was employed as a pharmaceutical till 1942. It was used as a prescription drug to ease work pains, revulsion, and fits. Many individuals used it for its overwhelming effects as well , even at that time. A campaign was launched by the Bureau of Drugs that portrayed weed use as addictive and a potent mind stimulator. This finally gave birth to one of the most pointless indoctrination films, Reefer Insanity, which was produced by a church group. In the 1950s it was used by beatniks as a stimulant, while in the 1960s it was employed by hippies as a technique to fight against "The Man". This was when Buddhist/south Asian influence was high in music and literature of that time, and many folks were rebelling against war and adopting a rather more tranquil lifestyle by meditating with weed. Int the Buddhist way of living, the adoptation of marijuana use like their Buddhist teachers (as discussed above) was natural.

In the 1970s, marijuana was classified a schedule I drug, which basically meant it was one of the most abused narcotics and had no health benefits at all. Almost all of the marijuana made its way through the south border of US from Mexico, but political pressures and actions by authorities ceased the trade to a large extent. In the 1980s, the Reagan administration applied a 0 toleration policy which eradicated all the drug trade from the southern borders, which led to indoor cultivation. California turned into a hotbed for production. These strict policies resulted in reduced marijuana use in the late 1980s. Weed was legal in India until 1980s, but it was made illegal by political pressure from the United States and the administration's stern policies. The 1990's once more saw a rise in weed consumption, particularly among highschool scholars.

Since the 1990s, dialogues about the medicinal properties and potential usage of the plant have taken place all around the country, leading over 15 states in the US to either legalize its medical usage or decriminalize it.

Effective Techniques Of Non Lethal Conflict Resolution

By Angel Dudley

With the regular scarcity of resources in our societies, disputes are an unavoidable part of life. We encounter them in organizations and many other settings. Disagreements occur when the goals, interests and priorities of parties are not in congruence. Each party has an opposing view and resources are limited. Disputes may have positive or negative outcomes. If the outcome is expected to be negative, the disagreement should be quelled using non lethal conflict resolution techniques.

Achieving a consensus between the warring parties is the most desirable outcome of an argument. This is a scenario where both parties employ empathy to understand the problem. A common agreement is achieved after investigating the problem. In a consensus, both parties voluntarily choose to end the disagreement. This method is desirable since personal relationships are built over potentially hazardous ground.

Competition is a strategy that works by giving precedence to the demands of one party over those of an opposing group. Forcing works where the argument is likely to continue over a long period and time is a significant factor. Competition does not investigate the underlying causes of the problem, thus raising the likelihood that it might resurface.

In some cases, the only way to find a solution is to compromise the interests of disagreeing parties. Compromise is a technique that seeks to find an expedient and mutually acceptable solution for the warring parties. This approach can be employed for moderately important goals where coercion is not plausible. Looking for a common ground may however be tedious and time consuming. Since both parties give up something of value, they may become disgruntled and later engage in another battle.

When you realize that the need or priorities of another party are superior to yours, it is better to accommodate their point of view for the overall good. Accommodation is a strategy that works well in the high levels of organization where the company vision and objectives are clear. It may also be used to buy time to prepare for a better argument. As the adage goes, it is better to live to fight another day.

Withdrawing from a disagreement is also one way of settling a dispute. In this case, one party opts out and gives up their demands. Management may also avoid problems by ignoring them and hoping that they go away. Withdrawal is mainly used where the subject matter is trivial and there are more urgent matters to be attended.

Where management has executive control over resources, they may issue a direct command regarding the dispute. An authoritative command gives out the position of the executive on the argument. The managers are not required to explain their position or reasons for coming to that conclusion.

Most disputes at the family and organizational level can be avoided or solved with effective communication. Where the value of subject matter is well understood, disputes are hard to arise. However, there are numerous non lethal conflict resolution techniques that can be used to quell disagreements.
